Exotic species require advanced care and knowledge of individual species that the average person may not know. Currently there is an increase in exotic species being kept in house holds (Halsby et al., 2014). Many online resources that are not reputable resources, detail inaccurate information or miss key components to caring for these animals. Crested geckos have rose in popularity in the pet trade. This is due to the species being found once again by Robert Seipp in 1994 after once being thought to be extinct (Hamper, 2012). Red Eyed Tree frogs have also been a big hit in the pet trade and have been captive bred by hobbyist breeders (amphibiaweb, 2013).
